About Us

We are a Thanet based driving school covering Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and the surrounding areas. I've been instructing for over 30 years, starting in London before moving to Thanet 15 years ago.

As well as teaching people to drive I also train people to become driving instructors. In addition, I hold a Fleet Licence, allowing me to perform risk assessments for companies who employ drivers and want to ensure that their driving abilities are to standard.

I'm a great believer in keeping my teaching practice current , which is why I attend as many courses as possible, including B-Tec level 4 in Driver Development, Train the Trainer and Ordit, to name just a few. I am also a licenced examiner and carry out Taxi Tests.

My teaching style differs from that of many other instructors. My lessons are pupil led , a coaching approach, putting you, the pupil, in control of your learning. This coaching method gives you the opportunity to steer the learning process, to reflect on your learning and to identify your strengths and areas where you consider additional work is required. This approach firmly puts you in the driving seat.

Questions you should ask

What Exams do I need to take to become a Driving Instructor?

There is a three part test, which is as follows...

Part 1 is a PC based multiple choice ADI theory and hazard perception test similar to the current test for learner drivers but you are required to answer 100 questions (not just 50) on a broader set of subjects. You will also have a hazard perception test.

Part 2 is a driving test, again similar to the current test for learner drivers but you are only allowed to make 6 minor faults (not up to 16 as on the L test). After passing Part 2 and completing the necessary training you can start your job as a driving instructor on what is called a Trainee Licence.

Part 3 is a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency examiner will watch you give a client-centred driving lesson lasting about an hour to one of your pupils.
